Wheeling Township thanks community for outpouring of holiday generosity
While the holiday season brings warmth and celebration for many families, it can also be a time of hardship and uncertainty for those struggling to meet their basic needs. Wheeling Township extends its heartfelt thanks to the community for an extraordinary outpouring of generosity that made a meaningful impact by helping to ensure more than 450 families experienced care and connection over the holidays.
Thanksgiving Baskets filled with all the traditional fixings and essentials made certain that families experiencing financial challenges could still enjoy a holiday meal. Through the Adopt-A-Family program, generous donors provided gift cards to families in need to purchase gifts for loved ones. Contributions to the Wheeling Township Food Pantry, including both food and monetary donations, helped to keep the pantry’s shelves stocked to meet continued growing needs.
Community members also showed strong support for Operation Support Our Troops by donating food items, personal care supplies, and handwritten cards for “Comfort & Care” packages that were sent to active-duty service members stationed overseas. Monetary donations helped cover the shipping cost for each package.
“The generosity of our community is a powerful reminder that no one stands alone in Wheeling Township,” Township Supervisor Maria Zeller Brauer said. “Because of our amazing donors, families were able to share holiday meals, children felt the joy of the season and our service members received a message that they are remembered and appreciated. This compassion is what makes our community strong, not just during the holidays, but all year long.”
Community support through donations is vital to the township’s ability to serve residents facing hardships by enabling the township to respond quickly, provide essential services and offer hope to those navigating difficult circumstances throughout the year. The township is grateful to everyone who contributed their time and resources to support neighbors in need.
