Vernon Township Welcomes New Assessor, Mental Health Board Member
Vernon Township welcomes two new individuals to leadership roles that serve the community this month, whose professional expertise and strong commitment to public service will enhance the township’s work on behalf of residents. Bruce Piepenbrink was appointed as the new township assessor, and Emily Crutchfield as a member of the Vernon Township Community Mental Health Board.
The Vernon Township Board appointed Piepenbrink as the new township assessor on Jan. 8. He has been a township resident since 2001 and brings more than 40 years of professional experience to his role. He currently serves as vice president at Hoyne Savings Bank, where he has been employed for 41 years. A longtime community volunteer, Piepenbrink coached youth baseball through the Buffalo Grove Recreation Association and youth soccer at the Buffalo Grove Park District. He is a past president of the Rotary Club of Wheeling and is currently an active member of the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club. Married for 24 years, he and his wife are the proud parents of two children, along with their family dog, Rocket. In his free time, Piepenbrink enjoys golfing, bowling and hands-on home projects.
Crutchfield was appointed to serve on the Vernon Township Community Mental Health Board on Jan. 15. She has a strong background in education and advocacy and has served as the general music teacher at Wayne Thomas Elementary School in Highland Park since 2007. Crutchfield is actively involved in educational leadership, holding roles within the North Shore Education Association and as a delegate to both the National Education Association and the Illinois Education Association Representative Assemblies. She also serves on the board of education for Diamond Lake School District 76. A Vernon Township resident since 2008, Crutchfield is passionate about increasing awareness of resources for individuals facing mental illness, disabilities, and substance use challenges. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, singing and reading.
“Bruce and Emily each bring a unique set of skills, experiences and perspectives that will benefit Vernon Township and the residents we serve through their different roles,” Vernon Township Supervisor Tim Kobler said. “We are very grateful for their willingness to serve our community.”
