Resident suffers burn injury in early morning house fire near Geneva
One person suffered a minor burn in a house fire early Friday morning near Geneva.
Firefighters were called to the two-story, single-family home near the intersection of Kirk and Hill roads in an unincorporated area of the county near Geneva just after midnight and discovered heavy fire in the rear of the home and coming from a second-floor window.
While the residents were able to exit the house, one suffered a minor burn and was treated at the scene by paramedics and refused transport to a hospital.
Fire officials said the fire was ignited by “careless use of smoking materials in a first-floor bedroom.” Fire, smoke and water damage was extensive and caused the house to be deemed uninhabitable.
