Authorities: Aurora police shoot, kill man armed with a knife

Aurora police shot a 27-year-old man Wednesday afternoon while investigating a report of a crime, and the man has died from his injuries,authorities announced.

Police say they were called at 12:35 p.m. for the report that a battery had occurred on the 300 block of South Broadway.

A man was barricaded in a building and armed with a weapon, according to a police news release.

They say he displayed a knife when officers encountered him. Officers shot at him, and he suffered at least one gunshot wound, according to the news release.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. An autopsy will be performed at a later time to determine the exact cause of death.

The man was treated by police officers and Aurora paramedics.

The Fox Valley Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the shooting.
