South Korean youth ensemble KARA concludes Midwest tour in Huntley
Hailing from Suwon, South Korea, a suburb of Seoul and before returning to Korea, the KARA Youth Chorus and Orchestra will conclude its second Vision Trip tour at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church Huntley, on Sunday, Feb. 8.
Sponsored by the SOTP Artist Series, the public is invited to attend this free performance at 2 p.m. at the church, 10805 Main St. No tickets are required and freewill donations are gratefully accepted.
The group, comprised of more than 70 members ranging from 6 years old through high school, is affiliated with Suwon First Church. KARA is widely praised for their high quality musicianship, energy, and collective enjoyment of which they joyfully portray in their performances. Mrs. Jinhwa Oh has been the principal conductor and music director of KARA Youth Chorus and Orchestra since 2012.
This second KARA Vision Trip Tour in Wisconsin and Illinois focused to explore the beauty of midwest choral and orchestral music, while experiencing midwest culture, friendship, and life. They have toured a cheese factory, performed concerts with like choirs and at a half-time show at a basketball game, and will culminate with a local trip to Medieval Times ahead of its performance at Shepherd of the Prairie.
Its first Vision Trip Tour in 2018 included Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic, including a concert with the German Hanover Choir, which returned the favor by traveling to Korea for a combined performance.
The KARA Youth Choir and Orchestra has won numerous prizes and awards, such as the National Sunday School Federation prize, among others. The choir performs yearly more than 50 times, including many church concerts, featured performances at various churches and festivals.
