Lake Zurich Police Sergeant Graduates from Prestigious Staff and Command School
The Lake Zurich Police Department has announced the recent graduation of Sergeant Eric Bereza from the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University.
Sergeant Bereza has successfully completed the 10-week Staff and Command program which was held two weeks a month in Elmhurst, from September, 2025, through January, 2026. The program, implemented by the Center for Public Safety in 1983, has graduated over 25,000 students both nationally and internationally. Sergeant Bereza was a student in SPSC Class 620 which accommodated a total of 38 students. He is a 20-year veteran of the Lake Zurich Police Department and was promoted to sergeant in 2021.
“We are very proud of Sergeant Bereza and his recent accomplishment,” Chief of Police Steve Husak said. “We look forward to him applying his education and training to the Lake Zurich Police Department.”
The School of Police Staff and Command provides upper-level college instruction in a total of 27 core blocks of instruction with major topics of study including: Leadership, Human Resources, Employee Relations, Organizational Behavior, Applied Statistics, Planning and Policy Development, Budgeting and Resource Allocation.
The Center for Public Safety was established at Northwestern University in 1936 with the specific goal of expanding university-based education and training for the law enforcement community. Since its inception, the Center has broadened its original objective and now provides a variety of courses and programs in the area of Police Training, Management Training and Executive Development.
