Upcoming debates set for 8th Congressional District primaries

More debates are planned in the coming weeks for both the Democratic and Republican candidates vying for the 8th Congressional District seat.

The seat is currently held by Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, who is instead running for U.S. Senate.

Two of the four candidates in the Republican primary for the 8th District will meet in a debate at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fairfield Inn and Suites, 700 National Parkway in Schaumburg.

Jennifer Davis of Huntley and Mark Rice of Arlington Heights will participate in the Schaumburg Township Republican Organization event moderated by radio talk show host Amy Jacobson. Fellow candidates Kevin Ake of Elk Grove Village and Herbert Hebein of Chicago weren’t invited by STRO because they have no campaign fundraising registered with the Federal Election Commission.

Jennifer Davis, left, and Mark Rice are Republican candidates for 8th Congressional District seat.

Admission is free. Attendees should RSVP at stgop.org.

Candidates in both parties’ primaries, including Ake, are confirmed for a pair of forums organized by the League of Women Voters of the Palatine, Barrington and Schaumburg Areas (LWVPA) on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Harper College’s Wojcik Conference Center, 1200 Algonquin Road in Palatine.

All eight Democratic candidates will participate from 10 a.m. to noon. They are Junaid Ahmed of South Barrington, Yasmeen Bankole of Hanover Park, Melissa Bean of Barrington, Sanjyot Dunung of Des Plaines, Neil Khot of Hoffman Estates, Kevin Morrison of Mount Prospect, Dan Tully of Carol Stream and Ryan Vetticad of South Barrington.

Ake, Davis and Rice will comprise the Republican forum from 1-3 p.m.

Attendees should register and submit candidate questions at lwvpalatinearea.org.
