Man faces gun charge in Naperville

A Plainfield man is facing gun charges after Naperville police made a traffic stop Saturday night.

Deion Kidd, 30, of the 21000 block of West Kinsley Court, is charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, both felonies, according to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

On Monday, DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden ordered Kidd be kept in jail while awaiting trial.

Around 11:20 p.m. Saturday, patrol officers saw a vehicle make a right turn from Odyssey Court onto Route 59 and then cross over to the far left through lane, authorities said. The officers could not see a silhouette of a driver, so they suspected the vehicle's windows were illegally tinted.

Police said they saw the driver, later identified as Kidd, reach toward the glovebox, then back to the rear passenger floorboard.

They pulled the car over at Diehl Road. Police found a loaded Glock 46 in the glovebox.

According to a petition for pretrial detention, police also found two half-sticks of what they believe was dynamite in the center console. The petition says that Kidd told police they were Fourth of July fireworks he had obtained for his daughter.

The petition also states that while handcuffed, Kidd swallowed something, and at the police station, appeared to be overdosing on narcotics. He was given Narcan and treated at a hospital, according to the petition.

Kidd has felony convictions in a 2014 gun case in Cook County and a 2014 obstruction of justice case in McDonough County, according to the petition.

Kidd is also charged with misdemeanor and traffic offenses, including improper turning, improper window tint and illegal transportation of open alcohol.
