Forum for 9th Congressional candidates set for Thursday

Democratic candidates for Illinois’ mostly suburban 9th Congressional District seat will appear in a public forum Thursday, Jan. 15.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Warren Park Field House, 6601 N. Western Ave., Chicago. It’s being organized by the West Ridge Community Organization and the West Ridge Action Network.

Candidates Kat Abughazaleh of Chicago, Bushra Amiwala of Skokie, Phil Andrew of Wilmette, Daniel Biss of Evanston, Laura Fine of Glenview and Mike Simmons of Chicago are set to appear.

The 9th District includes parts of Cook, Lake and McHenry counties. Incumbent U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, an Evanston Democrat, isn’t seeking reelection.

Seventeen Democrats and four Republicans are running for the seat in the March 17 primary election.
