Local students shine in athletics and the arts

The community at Palombi Middle School in Lake Villa Community Consolidated School District 41 is proud to celebrate an outstanding season of student achievement across athletics and the performing arts.

On the court, Palombi’s eighth-grade girls basketball team delivered an exceptional performance, earning first place and claiming the championship in their division. Not to be outdone, the sixth/seventh grade girls basketball team also had an impressive season, finishing second place in their division and demonstrating determination and teamwork throughout the year.

Success extended beyond basketball as well. Palombi’s Cross Country team captured first place at the Grayslake Central Middle School JV Invitational, showcasing endurance and competitive spirit. Meanwhile, the school’s Girls Soccer team brought home another major victory by earning the championship title, rounding out remarkable fall and early winter seasons for Palombi’s athletic programs.

Palombi students also excelled in the arts. Ten students were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in Band and Choir at the Illinois Music Education Association conference, highlighting the strength of the school’s music program and the dedication of its young performers.

Adding to these honors, Renee Brown achieved a truly extraordinary milestone by being selected to perform in the prestigious Tournament of Roses Parade on Jan. 1, 2026, as a member of the Band Directors Marching Band. This elite ensemble featured more than 300 band directors from across North America and accompanied a vibrant, animated float along the parade’s 5.5-mile route in Pasadena, California.

These accomplishments reflect the hard work, talent, and commitment of Palombi Middle School students, as well as the support of dedicated coaches, teachers and families. The school is incredibly proud of all they have achieved and looks forward to even more success in the future.
