Buffalo Grove officer tapped as department’s new sergeant

Buffalo Grove announced the promotion of police officer Michael Carlson to sergeant.

Carlson has served as a Buffalo Grove officer since 2012 and as a traffic specialist since 2014. He was named Officer of the Year in 2020, earned outstanding achievement awards in 2020 and 2023, in addition to several Employee of the Quarter awards and honorable mentions.

He replaces Kurt Lowenberg, who retired after 31 years of service. Lowenberg earned several unit citations, life-saving Awards and a Community Policing Award over his decades of service.
