Congress must act to control president

The Jan. 3 attack on Venezuela, in the middle of the night, and the capture (kidnapping) of Maduro and his wife is extremely worrying on multiple levels.

Trump is shredding our Constitution and the Trumplicans in Congress are complicit and enabling him. To attack a foreign country without provocation puts us in the same category as Russia.

The U.S. has no legal right to overturn another country’s government. None. This attack goes against our Constitution and international law.

This is frightening. Every American should be scared, and if Congress doesn’t stop Trump now, we will be well on the way to becoming Russia 2.0. The attacks on Venezuela are those of a dictator, not a president who is supposed to follow the Constitution and laws.

Thus far, our Congress has muzzled themselves, abdicated their responsibilities, and allowed this administration to do anything they want. Congress cannot sit on their hands, close their eyes and ears, and do nothing any longer.

We are, at this minute, living in a country that is becoming a dictatorship, where Trump and his sycophants simply act without regard to what is right, moral or legal. I will be calling senators and representatives to make it clear that at least this American citizen will not stand by silently while our out-of-control president starts an illegal war, breaks international law and spits on our Constitution.

Trump is acting like a mad tyrant and he must be stopped. Congress, do your job.
