Live music, puzzles tournament among programs at Des Plaines library this month
Des Plaines Public Library patrons can enjoy live bluegrass music, make stuffed animals, compete in a jigsaw puzzle tournament and more in free programs this month.
Break out your pencils
Learn to draw the human body in a life drawing class Saturday.
A clothed model will be the focus of the two-hour class, which will begin at 10 a.m. in the fourth-floor space called the Canvas.
The session is open to teens and adults. Registration isn’t necessary.
Paper and pencils will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own sketchbooks, tablets or easels.
Log on and learn
If you’re new to computers or the internet, the library can help you pick up some of the skills you need at the library.
An hourlong class on computer basics is set for 2 p.m. Jan. 15. It’ll be held in the forum on the fourth floor.
The class is geared to adults.

Bluegrass performance
A band called the Bourbon Aristocracy will perform Kentucky bluegrass music Jan. 25. Classics from Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs and other legends will be on the set list, along with more recent numbers.
The show is set for 2 p.m. in meeting room B/C.

Have a cow, man
Young patrons can pick up kits to make stuffed toy cows starting Jan. 27.
Supplies are limited, so the activity is open only to children who live in Des Plaines.

Look at the big picture
Patrons are invited to compete in a jigsaw puzzle tournament Jan. 31 from 1 to 4 p.m. in meeting room B/C.
Participants can register as teams of two to five players, or individually.
The contest will be split into two categories: one for adults and teens, and the other for families with kids 8 or older. Parents or guardians must attend for young puzzlers.
Registration is required to participate, but spectators are welcome.
