Lake Zurich police squad struck while officer was conducting a traffic stop

A McHenry woman faces driving under the influence and other charges after police say she struck a Lake Zurich squad car Tuesday night while the officer was conducting a traffic stop.

No injuries were reported in the crash about 9:30 p.m. on Route 12 near June Terrace.

According to police, the officer was making a traffic stop in the right lane with emergency lights activated when a southbound Honda driven by Christine Lamanna, 60, struck the right side of the squad car.

The officer was outside the car at the time interacting with the vehicle he had stopped, police said. Lamanna remained on the scene, police said.

She is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol; driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08 or more; operating an uninsured vehicle; unlawful transportation of liquor; improper lane usage; failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash; unlawful use of a weapon; and, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, also known as Scott’s Law.

Lamanna was released with a court date in January.

Under Scott's Law, drivers are required to slow down and move over when approaching an emergency vehicle with emergency lights activated. Violators face fines of $250 to $10,000 for a first offense.
