New exhibit to showcase ‘Glen Ellyn on Ice’

For families in Glen Ellyn, the green light on the Lake Ellyn Boathouse means it’s time to hit the ice.

The village’s ice skating traditions, often revolving around the neighborhood lake, will be the focus of a special exhibit opening at the start of the new year.

Presented by the Glen Ellyn Historical Society, “Glen Ellyn on Ice” will spotlight Glen Ellyn Speedskating, a club that’s helped produce Olympic athletes. The exhibit spans decades of stories and memories. It also will feature photos from the historical society’s collection.

There is no admission charge, though donations are welcome. The exhibit will be open during regular operating hours of the Glen History Center, 800 N. Main St, through April. For details, call (630) 469-1867 or visit gehs.org.
