Authorities: Batavia man stabbed wife more than 40 times

A Batavia man stabbed his wife more than 40 times and hit her with a hammer, killing her, a Kane County prosecutor told a judge Wednesday.

Assistant State’s Attorney Tyler Cox said Hector B. Luvianos, 37, stabbed his wife 20 to 30 times in her head and 20 to 25 times in her back, neck and chest.

The victim was also hit repeatedly with a hammer on her head and body, had several lacerations, and suffered a broken skull, Cox said.

On Wednesday, the Kane County coroner’s office identified the victim as Noemi Parada Narvaez, 43, of Batavia.

Luvianos is charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He is accused of attacking his wife around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday in his apartment in the 100 block of Church Street.

Cox said Luvianos told police he was defending himself.

But it was “a brutal and violent attack that went well beyond any inkling that it was self-defense,” Cox argued.

Cox said Luvianos called police and told dispatchers he had killed his wife. Cox said Luvianos told police the couple had been drinking alcohol and watching a movie, but his wife then accused him of infidelity and threw things at him.

Luvianos told police that he hugged her to defuse the situation, but realized she was holding a knife behind her back, according to Cox.

Police said Luvianos said he wrestled the knife from her and pushed her down, but that she tried to get the knife back. He then stabbed her and hit her with the hammer, Cox said.

Cox said police said Luvianos told investigators, “I defended myself and exceeded myself and killed her.”

Police found her body face down on the floor, covered by a blanket, Cox said.

Judge John Barsanti granted Cox’s petition to have Luvianos held in jail pretrial. Luvianos’s attorney asked for release on electronic home monitoring, arguing he was not a danger to the community or any specific person and that the only criminal history he has is a misdemeanor DUI from seven years ago.

Luvianos’s next court date is Jan. 2.
