Increased demand pressures food pantry
The Township of Schaumburg operates a robust client-choice food pantry for our neighbors facing hunger and we need your support this winter. Each year, the township’s food pantry sees a 10% increase in visits in November and December. This annual increase, in addition to the influx caused by the delay in SNAP benefits in early November, has depleted our shelves. Our community members have been incredibly generous this holiday season thus far and we truly couldn’t be more thankful for their contributions. However, because of the influx of new food pantry clients — more than ever before — the donations are quite literally flying off the shelves.
In November 2025, the Township’s pantry saw the most clients ever in one day — 109 appointments. A typical day is anywhere between 65 and 75 clients. The monthly average is now over 1,400 appointments. In November 2024, the pantry averaged around 1,200 appointments. Finally, the pantry served 203 new clients in November, breaking the previous monthly record of 131.
The Schaumburg Township Food Pantry fills its shelves in many ways, with community partners like the Greater Chicago Food Depository, local grocery stores who participate in our food rescue program and our many individual and group donors. The individual donations, big and small, make a bigger difference than you might realize.
Township staff and volunteers are working hard to keep up with the high demand and we are proud to offer this resource when so many in our community need help. Schaumburg Township offers this service and many others with less than 2% of your annual property tax bill. Supporting Schaumburg Township is supporting your neighbors. Have a happy and healthy holiday season.
