Nine-year-old student raises over $750 for Northern Illinois Food Bank
A local 9-year-old is making a big difference this holiday season.
Piper, interested in helping others, raised $750 for the Northern Illinois Food Bank after being inspired by seeing someone in need. Wanting to ensure no one went hungry, she decided to raise money for the Food Bank.
With the help of her father, Piper created a video on GoFundMe to share her mission. Friends and family quickly responded, helping her surpass her fundraising goal.
“Piper’s efforts show the impact even our youngest neighbors can make,” said Colleen Ahearn, chief philanthropy officer at Northern Illinois Food Bank.
The Northern Illinois Food Bank serves 13 counties and provided 93.5 million meals last year. This fall, the Food Bank has seen a spike in the number of visits, largely due to recent SNAP changes.
A “Fund Drive” like Piper’s allows the food bank to purchase much-needed food and stretch donations further, every $1 can provide up to $8 worth of groceries.
