Fire at Prospect Heights restaurant extinguished without injuries Wednesday morning
Firefighters extinguished a fire at a restaurant in Prospect Heights within 10 minutes of arrival Wednesday morning, with all involved escaping injury.
Only staff were present at the business at 1250 S. River Road when firefighters were dispatched at 9:38 a.m. for a report of smoke, with fire alarms functioning as intended.
The detection of heat and smoke in the building ultimately brought 40 firefighters from Prospect Heights and eight other departments, but the fire was extinguished with a single hose line.
Firefighters spent an additional hour ensuring the fire was out and hadn’t spread. The business owner arrived about 20 minutes after the call.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters said a sprinkler system might have reduced the extent of the damage.
