Gurnee police to distribute Turkey Trot proceeds to charity

The Gurnee Police Department will host an event Monday to distribute proceeds from the 31st annual Jon Callaghan Memorial Turkey Trot.

More than 450 people participated in the annual 5K run/walk fundraiser this year.

Funds will be distributed to local organizations, as well as this year’s benefit family, who has chosen to remain anonymous. In addition to the family, recipients include: Gurnee Community Church Youth Missions Program; Gurnee School District 56 Special Needs Program; Warren Township Food Pantry; and University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital.

The event honors the legacy of Jon Callaghan, a student at O’Plaine School in Gurnee, who passed away in 1997 after a courageous battle with Neuroblastoma cancer.
