Itasca man charged with murder in Harvard death investigation

An Itasca man has been charged with the death of a woman in an unincorporated area near Harvard.

At around 4:45 p.m. on Dec. 13, officers from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office and Harvard Fire Protection District responded to a well-being check on the 4500 block of Island Road.

Upon arrival, police found a dead woman with a gunshot wound, as well as an injured adult man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The man, 75-year-old Itasca resident Silvano Perri, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and later transported to McHenry County Jail, officials said.

Perri is facing two charges of first degree murder and is due in McHenry County court on Dec. 17.

The death investigation remains ongoing.
