Health club, retail tenant proposed for former Dominick’s in Buffalo Grove’s Chase Plaza
A developer is proposing dividing a former Dominick’s building in Buffalo Grove into two tenant spaces for both a health club and a general retail use.
Shorewood Development Group has both the former Dominick’s and an adjacent outlot parcel under contract in Chase Plaza at the northeast corner of Lake-Cook and Arlington Heights roads.
The firm’s plans include a 34,500-square-foot health club, a 27,000-square-foot retailer, an update to the building’s facade, new signs, lighting and landscaping and a redesigned parking lot.
Shorewood SDG is also requesting the planned unit development designation for the property be amended to allow restaurants with drive-throughs as future uses in the shopping center.
The plans submitted represent just the first phase of a longer plan to convert Chase Plaza and its adjacent properties into a larger mixed-use development.
“This has been my number one goal since I came in, to get that corner taken care of, and this is the first step toward redevelopment,” Buffalo Grove Village President Eric Smith said.
He added that Shorewood has been a good developer with a strong Buffalo Grove resume that includes the redevelopment of the former Rohrman property on Dundee Road as Bison Crossing and the shopping center across from Woodman's as the Shops of Buffalo Grove.
“They deliver on all their promises,” Smith said of Shorewood.
The health club, Club Studio, would employ 15-25 full-time and part-time staff and operate from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Though the retail tenant hasn’t yet been identified, its hours would adhere to Buffalo Grove’s standard commercial operating hours.
The village’s planning & zoning commission is scheduled to review the proposal at its Wednesday meeting.
