Volunteers honored at Elgin Area Chamber’s Thanksgiving luncheon

Coordinated by the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce, more than 100 guests attended the 44th annual Community Thanksgiving Luncheon held at Elgin Community College on Tuesday, Nov. 25.

“We are proud to honor our community volunteers who were nominated by local nonprofits for their incredible support,” said Carol Geiske, CEO and president of the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce.

“These dedicated individuals tirelessly devote their time, energy, and talents to make a positive impact, often without seeking recognition or reward,” Geiske said. “By acknowledging their efforts, we not only celebrate their invaluable contributions but also inspire others to engage in acts of kindness and service.”

Recipients were:

• Kathy Festen, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley

• Nancy Flory, Ecker Center for Behavioral Health

• Mark Gibb, Marklund

• Kim Goehring, Anderson Humane

• Lova Jackson, Community Crisis Center

• Ken Karczewski, Fox Valley Hands of Hope

• Cristina Colunga, Elgin History Museum

• Greg Korbecki, Food For Greater Elgin

• Michael Novelli, Side Street Studio Arts

• Pat Sekowski, Elgin Symphony Orchestra

A time-honored tradition, the chamber’s Thanksgiving Luncheon marks an anticipated community holiday gathering where business and the community come together to give thanks for the many partnerships and accomplishments that strengthen our local economy and enhance the quality of life in the Elgin area.

The holiday luncheon is a wonderful reminder of what makes Elgin and South Elgin so special, including its people, the partnerships, and the shared purpose of building thriving communities. This annual tradition with its theme of “thanks” and “giving” serves as a kickoff to Small Business Saturday on Nov. 29 and the holiday season.
