Kane County Clerk’s office opens new satellite location in Elgin
The Kane County Clerk’s office is ready to open its second satellite office, providing crucial services to the growing population in the northern end of the county. John A. Cunningham and other officials will be hosting a grand opening with a ribbon-cutting for the new location at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 2170 Point Boulevard, Suite 600, Elgin.
The satellite office fulfills Clerk Cunningham’s goal to expand access to services for residents in Elgin and the surrounding communities.
“This has been a work in progress,” Cunningham said.
The new location will offer the same services currently available at the main office in Geneva. Residents can request a copy of their birth, death, or marriage certificate and also applying for a passport. Elgin residents will no longer have to drive to Geneva for services.
The clerk’s office opened its first satellite office at 5 E. Downer Place in Aurora in August 2018.
“Aurora’s position was that the location was warranted because it is the second largest city in the state,” Cunningham said.
Elgin’s position is that it has the fastest growing elderly population and it’s harder for seniors to get to Geneva’s office than it is from Aurora,” he said.
The clerk’s office has been working with the mayors of Elgin for some 20 years, he said. Cunningham praised Elgin Mayor Dave Kaptain for working with the clerk’s office to find a location for the satellite office. “I have to give credit where credit is due — to the current mayor who has worked with us,” Cunningham said.
The location, near Randall Road, ultimately was chosen, he said. “The location will be convenient for Elgin residents but for all of the county’s northwest municipalities and villages, including Del Webb communities for those 55 and older, Cunningham said.
“We’re not only expanding accessibility to services to residents in Elgin, but to all of the towns surrounding Elgin,” Cunningham said. The new location is accessible from Illinois Route 20 and Randall Road and I-90 and Randall Road. The location is ideal because of adequate parking as well, he said.
The clerk’s office is responsible for a multitude of services, including elections, tax extension and vital records — birth, death and marriage/civil union certificates. The clerk’s office is an acceptance facility for U.S. passport applications, as well.
Cunningham has served as Kane County’s Clerk since 2002, demonstrating a commitment to serving the public with integrity. From modernizing the election system off the punch card, to improving voter access, to being recognized as one of the top 10 election authorities in the United States by the U.S. Alliance Group, as just a few of his many accomplishments.
