Naperville police officer involved in crash
A Naperville police officer was involved in a three-car collision Monday evening near the intersection of Route 59 and 95th Street, authorities said.
Three people, including the officer, were transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer was en route to a call for a patient who was not breathing when the crash happened just after 6 p.m.
The squad car the officer was driving was hit on its passenger side and rolled onto its roof, Naperville Police Cmdr. Rick Krakow said.
The officer was driving a marked squad car with its lights and sirens activated as he traveled westbound on 95th Street on a red light through the intersection at Route 59. It was struck by a Honda CR-V, which was traveling southbound on Route 59, Krakow said.
After striking the officer’s squad, the Honda hit a Toyota Highlander that was stopped at the light for eastbound traffic on 95th Street.
According to Krakow, the officer was driving at a speed that was significantly lower than the posted speed limit of 40 mph when the crash occurred.
No citations were issued at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
