Basketball roundup: Hersey, Maine East, Fremd boys remain unbeaten; Vyverman’s 17 points help keep Mundelein girls perfect
Hersey beat Hoffman Estates and Maine East outlasted Glenbrook North as four unbeaten area boys’ teams became two Tuesday.
Hersey 70, Hoffman Estates 44: Hersey (6-0) stayed unbeaten by knocking off the host Hawks (5-1). Charlie Pomis led Hersey with 30 points while Logan Luxem added 14 points. Hoffman was led by Torey Baskin’s 26 points and Cameron James’ 11 points.
Maine East 69, Glenbrook North 57: Maine East (7-0) continued its hot start by knocking off previously unbeaten Glenbrook North (7-1). Sophomore Jayden Dozie led the Blue Demons with 25 points while sophomore Albert Cooper had 10 points. Brandon Schreiber and Kaiden Wade each added 9 points.
Fremd 71, Buffalo Grove 48: Fremd (6-0) stayed unbeaten by knocking off Buffalo Grove. Tommy Moffett led the Vikings with 20 points while Jordan Williams had 15 points and Rafael Pinto 14. Buffalo Grove (3-4) was led by Alex Sirbu, who had 12 points and 7 rebounds, along with Dylan Ronczkowski, who had 11 points.
Barrington 52, Schaumburg 45: Barrington, which trailed by two at the half, held Schaumburg to just 5 third-quarter points to pick up the win. DJ Young, who was solid on both ends of the floor for Barrington (4-2), led the Broncos with 21 points while Oliver Gray had 14 points. Cam Anderson led Schaumburg (4-2) with 12 points. Tony Horton Jr. had 10 points and Aaron Shogren had 9 points.
Prospect 59, Wheeling 26: The Knights (4-2) had 13 different players score while breaking a two-game losing streak. Quinn Zinzer led Prospect with 12 points while Colin Tucker and Danilo Aleksic each had 7 points. Wheeling (1-6) was led by Jesus Zavala’s 10 points and Zach Neukrich’s 8 points.
Rolling Meadows 56, Conant 42: Tyler Stankiewicz had 16 points to lead Meadows (4-2) to the win. Andrew Krestel had 12 points and 6 rebounds, Marty Lesner 8 points and 10 rebounds and Sean Kerr had 8 points. Conant fell to 3-4.
Waukegan 61, Lake Zurich 51: Lake Zurich (3-4, 0-2) came up short in Waukegan. Kain Kretschmar led the Bears with 11 points while Tanner Dye and Tyler Reed each had 8 points.
Schaumburg Christian 56, Lombard Prep 45: Schaumburg Christian evened its season mark at 3-3.

Grant 59, North Chicago 17: Grant (4-4, 2-0) got a big night from freshman Aubrey Lehner who had a career-high 13 points. Sienna Enters added 10 points including a pair of three-pointers as 10 different Bulldogs scored.
Grayslake North 46, Lakes 34: Grayslake North (2-7, 1-1) picked up its first conference victory. Lakes (2-6, 0-2) was led by Gianna Gray, who had 11 points, Ryan Horvath’s 9 points and 3 steals along with Natalie Floren’s 9 points and 10 rebounds.
St. Viator 61, Ida Crown 26: The Lions rolled behind Ava Garcia’s 16 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists. Bella Gounaris had 9 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals while Kalin McCrea had 8 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals.
Grayslake Central 57, Round Lake 22: Addison Thomas had 12 points to lead the Rams (4-4, 2-0). Blake Pekofsky had 8 points, Autumn Aliff 7 points and Bailey Betts 6 points. Peyton Hoffmann added 5 points and 6 rebounds while Mosey Drevline had 3 points, 4 assists and 4 steals.
Mundelein 59, Zion-Benton 16: Mundelein (8-0, 3-0) remained unbeaten and atop the North Suburban behind Casey Vyverman’s 17 points, Grace Dunigan’s 10 points and Anayha Castro’s 7 points.
Lake Forest 54, Warren 43: The Blue Devils (1-6, 0-2) fell short in Gurnee.
Wauconda 50, Antioch 39: Wauconda (6-0, 2-0) stayed unbeaten and atop the Northern Lake County Conference thanks in part to a big game from Kelsey Piehl, who had 17 points and 6 rebounds.

Hersey 50, Vernon Hills 27: With the game tied at 16, Hersey (5-2) scored the next 13 points and never looked back. Kate Donovan led the Huskies with 16 points while Sadie Marks had 13 points and Emily Hany 11 points. Vernon Hills (6-2) was led Even Engler and Keira Thomas, who each had 6 points.
Glenbrook South 48, Carmel 41 OT: Carmel (6-2) lost a tight one in OT to Glenbrook South (7-2). Liv Johnson led Carmel with 15 points while Josie Hartman tallied 13 and Maliyah Mays 11.
Rolling Meadows 51, Libertyville 42: Rolling Meadows (7-1) continued its winning ways. The Mustangs were led by Nellie Osterhues and Abby Rammel who each tallied 16 points. Anna Adriano chipped in 7 points, Dalia Grandberry 6 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks and Lizzy Andriano 4 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and two steals. Lily Fisher led Libertyville (6-2) with 16 points.
Barrington 55, Hampshire 38: Barrington (3-5) picked up the win as Ayla Allen had 21 points, Isla Koertner 11 points and Lily Richmond chipped in with 10 points.
