Junk pile found in forest preserve

Kane County Forest Preserve District staff recently discovered a large junk pile in the Stoney Creek Forest Preserve near South Elgin, according to a staff report to the forest preserve commission.

The debris was revealed when vegetation died back in a ravine near a trail. It had been partially covered by leaves.

Workers hauled out approximately 1,500 pounds of scrap metal, 30 used tires, and a dump truckload of fencing, lumber and trash.
