A hope for clarity in immigration stories
Kudos to the old curmudgeon, Marc Monroe Dion, for his column, “Tired of Deportation,” in the Nov. 30 edition of the Daily Herald. Dion hit the nail right on the head: Newspapers are printing the same stories about poor children demonized by evil ICE, children who have “fathers of the year,” etc., with no mention of why deportation raids are being conducted. Our two Chicago daily newspapers are especially guilty of this. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. I hope Dion is right when he says that the public will get tired of reading “Where’s my daddy?” stories and that content managers at newspapers will stop publishing these stories or at least shorten them.
