Lisle Library District celebrates Diamond Jubilee with 60th anniversary event
The Lisle Library District is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a special Diamond Jubilee event on Friday, Dec. 12. It will be 5 to 7 p.m. at the library, 777 Front St.
The celebration will honor six decades of service, learning, and community connection with an evening of activities for all ages.
The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a special presentation from Mayor Mary Jo Mullen and the Lisle Woman’s Club recognizing the library’s long-standing role in enriching the community since its founding.
To mark the milestone, the first 100 attendees will receive a special, heavy-duty, canvas tote bag featuring a Diamond Jubilee version of the Lisle Library District logo. Cupcakes from Courageous Cupcakes Bakery will also be available, while supplies last.
Families visiting the youth services department can participate in a “Diamond” scavenger hunt and take photos in the holiday photo booth. At 5:30 p.m., the library will host a festive Winter Bingo, in partnership with Lisle’s very own Crooked Arm Vinyl & Tap. Players will have the chance to win 1960s-era vinyl records, adding a bit of nostalgia to the festivities.
“Spend the evening with the library, its founding organizations, local partners, patrons, trustees, and staff who make this institution thrive. The library became a district in 1965 via the determination and drive of community groups who wanted a public library in their hometown,” said Director Tatiana Weinstein. “The LLD would not be here today without the Lisle Woman’s Club, Friends, and resident support. The LLD shines bright today due to the efforts of people who truly value the freedom to read, view, and access information.”
All are invited to join the Lisle Library District for this joyous anniversary celebration and wish the Library a happy 60th!
