Township efforts strengthen social fabric
At our November Milton Township Board Meeting, I got emotional. It began when Shannon Hartnett, director of our 708 Community Mental Health Board, shared a story about an individual whose life was deeply affected by their work. Listening to her, I was struck by how the work I do as clerk helps support these incredible services offered through Milton Township. Later on in the meeting, Dave Sezonov and Debbie Mrozinski talked about the Food Pantry’s response to growing needs. Then, Sheila Beine explained how she supports our neighbors with housing, heating and other needs through our General Assistance Program.
I am so grateful for those who elected me for the office of township clerk. Being here allows me to support their work and to witness the real, everyday impact they have on people’s lives. I’d say it’s “magic,” but the truth is it is not — it is the result of hard working, compassionate people who come to work every day to help others.
In fact, most of our meetings illuminate what these public servants are doing every day. Pay attention. While some are working at shredding the bonds that hold our communities and our country together, I am fortunate to be in Milton Township, where I see that we in local township government are creating. Together, we are strengthening the social fabric that brings our communities and society together.
