Felon charged with illegal gun possession in Naperville

A Chicago man is being detained on charges that he illegally had a gun in the parking lot of a Naperville bowling alley.

Asante Glover, 35, of the 5600 block of South Hoyne Avenue, is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

Naperville police were patrolling the parking lot of Lucky Strike Naperville, 1515 Aurora Ave., around 9 p.m. Friday. According to authorities, officers saw a silver-colored firearm protruding from beneath the driver’s seat of a black Mercedes SUV.

They say Glover exited the bowling alley and got into the driver’s seat around 11:36 p.m.

Police say the gun was a loaded Glock 45 handgun, with a bullet in the chamber and a fully loaded magazine.

Glover is on probation on a federal conviction for the distribution of fentanyl.

A prosecutor’s petition to detain Glover states that he was convicted in 2010 and 2018 on charges of unlawful possession of a gun by a felon in Cook County.

DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden granted prosecutors’ request Monday to keep Glover in jail pending trial.

Glover’s next court date is Dec. 18 before DuPage County Judge Mia McPherson.
