Hanover Township to distribute holiday meal boxes
Hanover Township will distribute holiday meal boxes beginning Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the Astor Avenue Community Center, 7431 Astor Ave., Hanover Park. Meal boxes will also be distributed Thursday and Friday, Dec. 18-19; and Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 22-24. Meal boxes will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, except for noon on Dec. 24.
“Due to food prices, a recent job loss or for whatever reason, the typical holiday meal is not a reality for many families in our community,” Hanover Township Supervisor Brian McGuire said. “Thanks to the generosity of numerous donors and the Hanover Township Foundation, we are able to provide families in need with a meal this holiday season.”
Last December, 575 meal boxes were distributed.
Residents are asked to register in advance by visiting the community center and presenting a valid ID or utility bill. Only one meal box per household.
Each meal box contains a frozen turkey or ham, canned fruits and vegetables, coffee, dessert, gravy mix, potatoes and stuffing mix.
This year’s holiday meal box sponsors include St. John the Evangelist in Streamwood, the Bartlett Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus Mary’s Millennium Council #12801, the Bartlett Lions Club, and the Streamwood Women’s Club.
Hanover Township serves over 100,000 residents in portions of the Cook County communities of Streamwood, Elgin, Bartlett, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.
