Webpage created to update public on prosecution of chiropractor accused of secretly filming patients
The Kane County state’s attorney’s office has created a webpage to provide updates on its prosecution of a Batavia chiropractor who is accused of secretly videotaping undressed patients.
It also announced Monday that it believes Dr. David Hanson acted alone, saying there is no evidence indicating his relatives or employees of Hanson Family Chiropractic were aware of, or involved with, the crimes he is accused of committing.
The dedicated webpage is at sao.kanecountyil.gov/Pages/Hanson.aspx.
The state’s attorney’s office has received more than 1,500 calls and emails to a tip line dedicated to potential victims.
Hanson was arrested in early November. He is charged with producing child pornography, disseminating child pornography, possessing child pornography and unauthorized video recording of a minor through/under the clothes.
Authorities charge that Hanson had hidden cameras in his office. They believe he recorded more than 180 people.
The child pornography charges are not related to the chiropractic practice. According to an affidavit for seizure of his car, authorities received a tip that Hanson had child pornography on an iPad. The video files depicted sexual abuse of young children. The iPad was found in the vehicle.
Further investigation led authorities to videos of the patients.
Hanson remains in jail. His next court date is Jan. 8.
Several lawsuits have been filed against him, the business, and the owner of the building where the business was located.
The lawsuits claim the building owner should be held responsible because the owner was responsible for maintaining the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system and should have noticed that cameras had been hidden in vents.
The state has temporarily suspended Hanson’s chiropractor license.
