More snow, cold expected this week
More snow and freezing temperatures are ahead for the suburbs, following a weekend snowstorm that made driving difficult and challenged best efforts to meet the onslaught with shovels and plows.
On the heels of a snowstorm that dumped 6 to 11 inches of snow on the area, the National Weather Service said Sunday that an additional 2 to 3 inches could fall by midweek.
“A period of accumulating snow is expected Monday afternoon into Monday night, which may produce hazardous travel conditions for the Monday afternoon commute and potentially lingering impacts for the Tuesday morning commute,” the weather service reported.
More snow is possible Wednesday and Friday, according to the weather service. High temperatures likely will remain in the 20s during the week, although a high of 32 is predicted for Wednesday and 30 on Saturday.
Low temperatures could drop to zero on Thursday night.
