Elgin cancels Saturday tree lighting ceremony
The city of Elgin’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony has been canceled due to Saturday’s snow, according to a social media post at around 2 p.m.
The ceremony had been scheduled for 5 p.m. at DuPage Court in Elgin. The event will not be rescheduled.
The city noted that Santa’s Workshop, at Habitat for Humanity, 56 S. Grove Ave., will be held until 3 p.m. as scheduled
“The tree will be illuminated tonight through January 12 at DuPage Court,” the city stated on social media. “Letters to Santa can be dropped off at DuPage Court until December 12.”
The city also said “tiny holiday village houses” will be displayed for visitation starting next week at city hall, the Center of Elgin, and at the Elgin Police Department.
