Work underway on Elk Grove Village’s $5.5 million village hall face-lift
A $5.5 million renovation project began this week at village hall in Elk Grove Village — the building’s first major face-lift since a $29 million makeover in 2009.
The bulk of the upgrades will be on the east side of the municipal campus, 901 Wellington Ave., where the police department will get a new fitness room, additional locker rooms and more efficient office space.
Office improvements are also planned at the information technology department on the second floor and the human resources department, which is relocating from the first to second floor.
The village’s emergency operations center is moving from the east side to the west side of village hall, adjacent to fire department administration offices on the lower level.
Public-facing areas shouldn’t be impacted just yet, but some minor tweaks are planned toward the end of the phased renovation to the finance department front counter, where many residents come to pay bills.
“The area may see some impacts to normal operations once we get to the portion of the project, but we need to have some additional conversations with the construction manager to understand timing and impact,” said Village Manager Matt Roan.
HR offices will temporarily move to the basement during construction, and some police operations will move to the former bank building at 75 Turner Ave. the village acquired in 2023.
Planning has been in the works for a year, and village board members last week approved construction contracts and increases in the general fund budget to pay for it all.
The $5.5 million project includes $3.6 million worth of bids for general trades, HVAC systems and electrical; furniture, fixtures and equipment; $270,000 for architectural and engineering work by ARCON Associates, and a $144,000 construction management fee for Nicholas & Associates.
Renovations should be complete in six months.
