Hainesville man facing charges after well-being check leads to arrest in Round Lake
A Hainesville man is facing several charges after a check on his well-being led to a short standoff in Round Lake early Saturday morning.
Javier Lopez, 33, was slumped over in his car around 1:30 a.m. on the 300 block of Cedar Lake Road when he was approached by an officer, according to a press release from the Round Lake Police Department.
Upon opening the door, the officer saw a gun in Lopez’ hand, the release stated. The officer held Lopez at gunpoint while waiting for backup, during which time Lopez became upset. Another officer arrived and deployed a Taser, and officers were able to arrest him. Lopez was transported to the hospital and later taken into police department custody.
Lopez is a “documented gang member” with prior felonies, the release said.
He was charged with one felony count of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, four felony counts of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and one misdemeanor count of resisting a peace officer, according to court records.
Lopez was ordered to be detained pretrial. He is due back in court on Dec. 23.
