Mixed results from the state football semifinals
Two local football teams won the right to play one more game next weekend: Montini advanced to the state final on Friday night in Class 4A, and St. Francis will play next Saturday morning in Class 5A.
Three other teams saw their football seasons end Saturday night: Batavia, Downers Grove North and Fremd had a great run, but they ran into tough matchups Saturday in the state semifinals.
Saturday also concluded the first week of the girls basketball season, and we had coverage of girls basketball also. The boys basketball season starts Monday. Look for our preseason boys basketball Top 20 and our boys basketball season previews in the next few days.
