How can this happen in the U.S.?
Can't believe this is actually happening. Recently, our landscapers showed up as they do every Friday. My husband went out to talk to them about something and noticed that one of the regular crew members wasn't there. When asking about him, he was told that the crew was pulled over by ICE last week while just driving to a job.
They had done nothing wrong to provoke any reason for being pulled over other than they were Hispanic. Luckily, they showed their documents and were let go. The crew member who wasn't here that day is now too scared to come to work.
These men are good people. They work hard doing jobs most of us don't want to do or no longer can do. We always acknowledge their value and are happy to see them every Friday. They were stopped solely because of how they look. They are definitely not “the worst of the worst.”
Can't imagine being afraid to leave your house because of the color of your skin. What's next — your choice of religion, your choice of who you love, your sexual orientation, your political beliefs?
Just think about that for a minute. This is unconscionable that this is happening in the United States of America in 2025.
