Palatine man facing drug and firearm charges
A Palatine man was charged with firearm and drug offenses after police responded to his home Thursday afternoon.
Dewayne A. Skippings, 39, of the 1300 block of North Geneva Lane, was charged with possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender, possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and obstructing a peace officer.
Officers received a call to Skippings’ residence at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday. They were advised that Skippings was hiding in the area.
Additional officers responded to assist in the search. Skippings reportedly attempted to run away when found but was arrested quickly.
Police recovered Skippings’ backpack, which reportedly contained a loaded .45-caliber handgun with ammunition, cannabis and drug-packaging materials.
At a detention hearing Friday, Skippings was ordered held at the Cook County jail. His next hearing is scheduled for Dec. 11 at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
