Four residents escape uninjured from fire that left Wheeling house uninhabitable

Four residents and their pet safely escaped from a Wheeling house fire that left the home uninhabitable Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to the single-family, two-story home on the 800 block of North Norman Lane at 9:02 a.m. and encountered a fire on the back deck extending to the attic.

There were no injuries to residents or firefighters; the residents are being assisted by the Wheeling Police Department Social Services Division. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A Long Grove fire engine and an Inverness ambulance handled another medical call during the fire, with Inverness paramedics taking that patient to the hospital, fire officials said.
