Woman dies at burn unit after two-vehicle crash in Hoffman Estates
A 23-year-old Aurora woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Hoffman Estates.
Jenny Evaristo died after being airlifted to the Loyola University Medical Center burn unit, police said.
At about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, officers and paramedics were dispatched for a report of a crash with injuries near the intersection of Golf and Bartlett roads.
Witnesses told dispatchers that both vehicles had left the roadway and that one had struck a tree and caught fire, trapping a male and female inside.
Though bystanders were able to rescue the male occupant of the burning vehicle; they were unable to free Evaristo. When the Hoffman Estates Fire Department arrived, crews extricated her.
Both occupants of the second vehicle were transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Evaristo and the other occupant of the burning vehicle were taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. Due to the extent of her injuries, Evaristo was airlifted to Loyola.
Hoffman Estates police were notified of Evaristo’s death at about 12:30 a.m. Monday.
No charges had been filed as of Tuesday, though the investigation continues.
The cause and manner of Evaristo’s death is pending toxicology results following a Tuesday autopsy, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
