Five people hurt in Gurnee crash

Five people were injured in a car crash in Gurnee on Monday, officials said.

The crash happened on Route 41 near its intersection with Grand Ave around 2 p.m., according to Gurnee Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Gramer.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash, which shut down one lane of traffic on the road. All five of the occupants of the vehicles were taken to the hospital, and some victims had to be extricated from one of the vehicles by first responders. All of the victims transported were stable.

The crash “could’ve been a lot worse,” Gramer said, given its location on a busy roadway.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
