Honoring 150 years of collective service at Hearthwood Senior Living
Hearthwood Senior Living honored 50 resident veterans representing more than 150 years of combined service across the U.S. Army, Navy, and Marines during a special Veterans Day pinning ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The event was made even more meaningful through the participation of 49 seventh- and eighth-grade students from St. Isidore Catholic School, who personally pinned each veteran in gratitude for their service. The morning included remarks, patriotic music and a tribute display featuring uniforms, medals, and photographs from the veterans’ years of service.
This year’s ceremony also commemorated the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, marking a milestone celebration of courage, legacy, and honor.
Among the veterans recognized were:
• Bill Sly (William Merrill Sly), 79, U.S. Army; Vietnam War combat photographer and Bronze Star Medal recipient, author of “No Place to Hide.”
• Philip Bozant, 84, U.S. Marines/Air Force; Served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War as a B-47 Crew Chief.
• John Boszko, 81, U.S. Army; Vietnam veteran and transport specialist who continues to mentor younger generations.
• Dennis M. Quinn, 84, U.S. Navy; Vietnam veteran whose career in naval intelligence supported classified missions overseas.
The event brought together generations in a heartfelt tribute to those who have served and the students who continue to learn from their example.
“It was inspiring to see our residents honored by the next generation,” said Eric Gross, Executive Director of Hearthwood Senior Living. “Our veterans’ stories are living history, and this ceremony was a beautiful reminder of gratitude, connection, and community.”
