Common-sense prevention

A recent opinion article opined that President Trump is wrong to send the military to prevent drug smugglers from Venezuela. He later states that the president is wrong to slash $345 million from drug treatment programs. It's time to use some common sense.

Simple logic says that spending millions for drug treatment will not solve the problem. The real problem is how do we stop people from becoming addicted. Answer: stop the flow of drugs.

You could spend billions of dollars on treatment and the problem will still be there. If past presidents, both Democratic and Republican, had taken the actions of President Trump, maybe we wouldn't need $345 million for drug addiction programs. In reality, if you get rid of the drug traffic, you could be saving $345 million and all the grief and despair that comes with addiction.

As Benjamin Franklin said “an ounce of prevention, is worth a pound of cure.”
