Garage fire spreads to Oak Brook home, causing significant damage

An Oak Brook home sustained significant damage from an early Tuesday morning garage fire that extended into the house, leaving it uninhabitable.

No injuries were reported in the blaze that was reported by the residents after they were awakened by smoke alarms around 2:20 a.m.

Oak Brook officials said the fire appears to have started in the attached garage of the ranch-style, single-family home on the 500 block of Abbeywood Court, then spread to the attic area.

Two ladder trucks with attached aerial water cannons were used to help knock out the fire, which took about two hours and 20 minutes, fire officials noted.

The cause remains under investigation. No damage estimate was immediately available.
