What’s next after end-of-life bill has passed?

Once again, Illinois Democrats resorted to their usual playbook, sneaking through a bill in the dead of night that legalizes physician-assisted suicide — with no or little debate or public input.

In the early morning hours of Friday, Oct. 31, Senate Bill 1950 was passed in a close vote in the Senate. This bill has to do with regulating sanitary conditions of food processors and distributors. Back in May, state representative Robyn Gabel added an amendment to the bill titled, “The End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act,” essentially allowing a qualified physician to prescribe end-of-life medication to a person wishing to die. Imagine adding such an amendment to a bill that had more to do with food preparation and sanitation. Only Illinois Democrats could come up with that.

But that’s their style. Despite overwhelming opposition to the amendment by the filing of 2,668 witness slips opposed to 597 in favor, the amendment passed in the House and now the Senate.

If signed into law by Gov. Pritzker, Illinois will become the 12th state to offer physician-assisted suicide. This will make Illinois one of the most anti-life states in the Union by allowing abortions of unborn children to now physician-assisted suicide for those seeking to die. What’s next? I can tell you what’s next — the targeting of the elderly and disabled. It’s only a matter of time.

I strongly urge you to contact Gov. Pritzker and ask him not to sign this bill — or at least the amendment providing physician-assisted suicide. The state should not be playing the role of God in determining one’s life.
