Stand up against Trump

Listen to the lyrics of Garth Brooks’ “We Shall Be Free.” They ring clear today as I listen: “when the last child cries for a crust of bread,” “when the last thing we notice is the color of skin” and “when we’re free to love anyone we choose” — we are not free today!

When masked, armed “soldiers” are walking the streets of our cherished, vibrant Chicagoland following the orders of a man who portrayed himself as a king, throwing feces over crowds of people marching to protect our freedom, that scares me. These “soldiers” harassed a small breakfast shop in Palatine because citizen owners were Hispanic. Our president harassing sanctuary states is not acceptable. It is scary to me that anyone admires or obeys his orders. Any person, Republican or not, that thinks this is OK, scares me!

Speak up! We can’t all run for Congress, but we can all change our country for the better. Volunteer, do something positive to spread the joy of living in a democracy. VOTE! “Have faith, if we all walk hand in hand, we shall be free.”
