Naperville man denied pretrial release in fentanyl case
State Judge Anthony Coco denied pretrial release of a Naperville man who was accused of drug trafficking and intent to distribute. Ahmad Dinah, 30, was charged with substance trafficking, unlawful possession and intent to deliver.
U.S. Postal Inspection Service intercepted a package Monday addressed to Dinah coming from California. It is alleged that the package contained around 1,000 fentanyl tablets.
After Naperville PD intercepted Dinah’s package, they outfitted it with GPS and a wire to create a controlled delivery of the parcel to Dinah, before entering and executing a previously obtained search warrant. They took Dinah into custody.
“The amount of fentanyl Mr. Dinah allegedly possessed is enough to kill entire cities,” said DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin. According to police reports, there were 30 similar packages delivered to Dinah's apartment this year.
“Countless lives were saved as a result of taking this fentanyl off the streets,” Berlin said, “which far too often results in irreversible consequences.”
Dinah’s next court appearance is scheduled for mid-November.
