Aurora’s Wesley UMC hosts guest preachers and Thanksgiving event
Four guest preachers will deliver sermons during November at Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora.
The Rev. Wendy Hardin Hermann, Prairie Central District superintendent, Methodist Northern Illinois Conference, opened the series Sunday, Nov. 2, with “Practicing Hope.”
The series continues with the Rev. Patrick Fish, an Oswego pastor, “Becoming ELCA” on Nov. 9; Pastor Shawna Bunnell, “Chaddock: Every Child Deserves a Chance,” a Quincy-based Methodist partner serving troubled children, on Nov. 16; and the Rev. Victoria Rebeck, UMCNIC communications director, on Nov. 23.
At 14 N. May St. in Aurora, Wesley holds Sunday worship at 9:30 a.m. online at wesleyumcaurora and in person at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary.
During annual All Saints Day Sunday, congregants were invited to come forward and light a candle in memory of departed saints in their lives. Departed congregants honored were Kelly McCleary, 1961-2024; and Cheryl Thompson, 1934-2024. Attendees were also invited to share Communion of All Saints.
Wesley Lead Pastor Rev. Tammy Scott announced the church will host a “Thanksgiving Feast of Hope” at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the Gathering Place room. The annual event features a free early Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings and a winter-gear giveaway. People in need are invited.
Co-hosts are LV Cares Foundation and Hand-In-Hand Humanity Haven, Aurora-based nonprofits providing support and assistance to those in need.
